How to Set Internet Explorer as Default Browser in Windows XP

Set Internet Explorer as the default browser in Windows XP SP1 and above

Formula No 1.

You may use the Set Program Access and Defaults feature to set your default browser. To set Internet Explorer as the default (this repairs the file association settings as well), try this:

From Control Panel, open Add/Remove Programs applet, and choose Set Program Access and Defaults button. [ Alternately, click Start, Run and type control appwiz.cpl,,3 ]

Click the Custom button once. From the list that appears, select Internet Explorer and then click the OK button.

  1. Go to Tools > Internet Options. If you don’t have the traditional toolbar display, your Tools button will look like a cog near the top right-hand corner of the page.

    Click to the Programs tab.

    Click Make Default.

    Check Tell me if internet explorer is not the default browser. This will alert you of any browser changes in the future.
