Almost every day, viruses, worms and malware increases, we need antivirus software that always up to date, because of that antivirus database updates really essential. if we use single computer with internet connection it wouldn’t be a problem because we can set automatic update accordance to our wishes. but what if we have computer network with 10, 20, 30 even 100 computer? should every computer on the network update automatically every day? it would be wasting time and bandwidth. if there is new computer on the network that hasn’t been updating antivirus databases before? should we update from the beginning?
Here are the solution for this problem. I use ESET NOD32 Antivirus 4 software. tutorial below describes settings between two computers.
Setup for server computer
open ESET NOD32 Antivirus Window, press F5 to open Advance program setup, choose the update menu, after that choose advance update setup
select Mirror tab, check Create update mirror.
choose folder on server computer to store the mirrored files.
don’t forget to share the mirror folder so it will be visible to the network. setup for the server computer is finish.
setup for client computer.
open ESET NOD32 Antivirus Window, press F5 to open Advance program setup, choose the update menu, after that choose Edit on the update server.
type complete server IP address or Computer name with the Mirror folder.
in this example, server computer IP address is 192.168.0.2 with mirror folder named updateNOD32. simply write this \192.168.0.2updateNOD32. next click Add > OK .
choose the update server from drop down menu, click OK.
setup for client computer is finish. then how it works?
when server computer updating antivirus database to the internet, it will automatically generate mirrored files to the selected mirror folder. client computer can use it as the new update. if you have new computer on the network, you can use the same setup for client computer.
