The Perseid meteor shower is peaking on Sunday, August 12th. The sky
map below shows the location in the northern sky where the Perseid
meteor shower will appear to originate from in 2012. The Perseid meteor
shower hits its peak every August and appears to come out of the
constellation Perseus.
This is the weekend of the peak of the annual Meteor Shower 2012
and most meteor forecasts predict the annual "shooting star" display
will be at its best during the overnight hours of late Saturday into the early Sunday.
The Perseid meteor shower
occurs each year in late July and early August when the Earth passes
through the dusty remains of the comet Swift-Tuttle. In the night sky,
the meteor shower appears to radiate out of the constellation Perseus,
hence, its name: Meteor Shower.
